Senior DevOps & Platform Engineering Consultant

Reliable deployments.
Less manual work.

I’m Marc Berthelette. I help engineering teams replace fragile release processes with dependable pipelines, practical automation, and useful monitoring.

Five years of consulting at Énergir, renewed four times: shared delivery tooling in an environment spanning 12 teams and 70+ applications. At Desjardins, automated artifact-retrieval validation across approximately 250 repositories.

Selected work

Real problems. Working solutions.

Examples of the systems I’ve delivered in energy and financial services.

Énergir · Delivery standards

Shared pipelines, tested on every commit

The problem
Teams maintained multiple Jenkins pipelines doing the same work, making changes and troubleshooting harder.
What I built
A shared pipeline repository with per-commit unit tests, approximately 80–90% JaCoCo coverage, and sample applications for manual integration testing.
What changed
All teams already deploying through Jenkins adopted the shared pipelines, with clearer reporting to distinguish pipeline defects from application issues.

Énergir · Release automation

A 15-step checklist, automated

The problem
MuleSoft production releases depended on a 15-step manual checklist.
What I built
Jenkins automation built each release once, allowing QA to test the exact artifact that would later be deployed to production.
What changed
Release preparation moved ahead of the production window. Developers selected a tested version to deploy and could roll back by redeploying a previous artifact.

Desjardins · Platform health

Validation across 250 repositories

The problem
The platform team needed to verify both Artifactory configuration and access to upstream artifacts, including through firewall restrictions.
What I built
A Python/FastAPI workflow that provisioned Artifactory, applied configuration from a selected Git reference, and tested artifact downloads without using cached copies.
What changed
Deployed through ArgoCD/GitOps, the suite ran on a schedule and reported configuration versions and artifact-level results in Dynatrace, making failed retrievals visible.

How I can help

Clear scope. Hands-on delivery.

CI/CD & release automation

Fix fragile pipelines, replace manual deployments, and add validation that catches problems before release night.

Jenkins · Azure DevOps · GitHub Actions

Platform tooling & automation

Improve delivery tooling, artifact repositories, and Linux workflows. Turn recurring operational tasks into maintainable automation.

Python · Bash · Linux · Artifactory

Monitoring & reliability

Build practical health checks and useful dashboards. Make failures easier to diagnose and configuration problems easier to spot.

Dynatrace · Splunk · ELK · FastAPI

My approach

How I work

Start with what hurts.

“If you had a magic wand and could fix one thing, what would you fix first?” That’s often my opening question. Together, we identify who each issue affects, how often it happens, and its impact. That gives us a practical starting point.

Solve the immediate problem.

I investigate the workflow and work with the team to implement a solution that fits their environment. The technology stack shapes the implementation; the problem guides the decisions.

Find more value in what’s already there.

Once the immediate pain is addressed, I introduce practices and capabilities the team may not have explored. Often, their existing tools can do more than they realize.

For example: centralized logs can support much more than troubleshooting after an incident. They can reveal recurring errors, gradual degradation, and early warning signs—even when nothing has caused a major outage. I help teams turn that information into useful monitoring and earlier action.

About Marc

An engineer who follows through.

Nearly 18 years across infrastructure, software development, and production operations, including energy and financial services.

I identify improvements, demonstrate the approach, and work with the teams who will use it. At Énergir, I moved approximately five Node.js applications to runtime configuration through team-reviewed pull requests, so the same tested build could be promoted across environments.

Core tools: Jenkins, Python, Bash, Linux, Azure, and delivery automation. Additional experience with Kubernetes application deployments and existing Terraform/Ansible provisioning workflows.

  1. Énergir

Senior DevOps Engineer, contract · Sep 2021 – Sep 2026

Built shared pipelines and eliminated recurring Oracle encoding incidents. Escalated Salesforce validation failures, prompting fixes within 48 hours and an on-time release. Built ArcGIS deployment tooling, validated through the test environment.

  2. Desjardins

Senior DevOps Engineer, contract · Oct 2025 – Mar 2026

Delivered scheduled artifact-retrieval validation with configuration tracking and Dynatrace reporting. Concurrent with the Énergir engagement.

  3. Tink

    DevOps Engineer · Jan 2018 – Aug 2021

Introduced staged patching across 600+ servers with progress and failure reporting. Built fleet inventory for vulnerability analysis, end-of-life planning, TLS scoring, and release visibility for Ops, product owners, and QA.

  4. SOVO Technologies

    Lead Technician → Software Engineer · Nov 2008 – Dec 2017

Led redundancy work for live-captioning infrastructure under strict client availability and latency requirements, supported by a second technician. Developed production scheduling and speech-recognition evaluation software.
